Hangxiety by Aderyn
Welsh indie artist Aderyn has returned with new single Hangxiety, out on August 26th. The track channels 90's riot grrrl influences such as Bikini Kill and Sleater Kinney. In under 3 minutes, Hangxiety takes the listener on a raucous journey through a wild night out. Driving, fuzzy bass underpins the song, and the anti-melodic chorus drums on the ear like swirling thoughts the morning after.
Aderyn says: “I wrote this song after a big night out in Bristol. I literally quit drinking after writing this song, I was so hungover. It was very much a ‘never again’ moment.”
In its 2 minute 20 run time, Hangxiety careens through Aderyn’s vortex of thoughts. The lyrics are playful as Aderyn asks the question felt by many 20 somethings- ‘am I wasting my life, or having the time of my life?’ As the existential dread builds, the music cuts between heavy groove based riffs and climaxes with a more frenetic punk outro.

As a teenager Aderyn grew tired of life on a sheep farm in the Brecon Beacons and left home at 16 to become a drummer in a grunge band. Watching the singers run around on stage, she decided that looked like fun too. Drawing on her love of grunge rock and indie pop she wrote songs about past loves, new loves and future loves; basically, all about loves, this is pop music after all…
