Prelude #44 by Allen Rickel

Continuing the dark theme of recent pieces, Prelude #44 was completed on September 24th, 2020. The initial theme started life as a secondary idea for another composition but it felt to me as if it needed to stand (or fall) on its own.

In something of a contrast, the secondary theme feels a little brighter and brings more movement, along with a new key, time signature and increased tempo to the piece. Hopefully, it lightens the mood a bit.
