Prelude #90 by Allen Rickel

The opening theme of Prelude #90 (completed June 3rd, 2022) feels formal and elegant. Despite being built on 5 measure phrases of 4 + 4 + 4 + 3 + 4, the music flows smoothly and seems to look for what's coming next.

As the second motif enters, the tempo slows and the mood changes to something ominous. Although written in a major key, it would be difficult to recognize. The darkness increases as the theme gradually builds to its conclusion.
