Inspiración by Ara Tokatlian - Enrique Villegas - Guillermo Bordarampé

This top-notch spiritual jazz album from Argentina will leave fans of Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane astonished. Recorded in 1975 and still surprisingly off the radar, this is one of the deepest jazz albums from South America.

Inspiración is the meeting of two generations united by music: Ara Tokatlian and Guillermo Bordarampé, members of the influential 70s rock band Arco Iris (which Tokatlian cofounded with the now Oscar award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla), join forces with Enrique "Mono" Villegas, an admired jazz pianist who had been active since the 1930s.

"The music on this album, as well as the poems and art design, accurately reflect the emotional and spiritual state I was in during the early formation of Rainbow. The teachings of Dana, our spiritual guide, strengthened my conviction that there was a magical world of sounds and ideas waiting to be discovered.

It was in Costa Bonita, Necochea, where I found the ideal place to begin to shape the work: an endless mountain range of gigantic dunes bordered by the furious Atlantic sea. I walked through that fantastic place day and night... alone... but always accompanied by the unmistakable memory of having lived that existence in another time.

I had the great honour of being accompanied by Enrique "Mono" Villegas and my soul brother Guillermo Bordarampé. Together we created an exquisite acoustic sound that will surely last in time. Juan Carlos López put into graphic art what was to remain forever in the vinyl grooves. On the day of the recording I felt the encouragement of love and admiration from my two greatest mentors: Gustavo Santaolalla and Dana.

How I wish those magical moments of harmony, music and inspiration could return, if only for a moment! I write these lines while tears slide down the dunes of my face.
