The next single from Anchorsong’s ‘Ceremonial’ album on Tru Thoughts (Number 5 in BBC 6Music’s Albums of the Year 2016) is the attention-grabbing track “Mother”alongside new track, “Slider”.
Underpinned by intense and characterful, incredibly skilful Tribal drum rhythms, 'Mother' is a potent snapshot of the album as a whole, on which Anchorsong (AKA producer Masaaki Yoshida) took a stylistic leap by combining his unique gift for catchy melodic phrasing with idiosyncratic beats and vintage African influences. It is testament to the album's charm that a year after its release, and four singles later, the standout tracks from this powerful LP keep on coming.
Showcasing his more recent progress in the studio, this single also boasts a new bonus track, “Slider”, which sees the multi-talented Yoshida riding a dreamy guitar groove, laced with heart-melting strings and synths, and propelled by the subtle energy of an intricately woven backdrop of percussion.
