October Moon by Andy Edwards

As part of Kidderminster Arts Fest 2019, Nina Price and Wyre Forest District Council asked me to put a program of events together celebrating fiftieth anniversary of the Moon landing.
As a centerpiece for the event we thought it would be great to suspend a six metre moon in the Atrium of Kidderminster College.

I started reading up about the Moon and couldn't help but be drawn by all the strange facts and figures surrounding our nearest neighbour.

One night, out in my garden, I looked up at the full moon and had that strange feeling when you become aware at the true magnitude of the universe in terms of the vast time spans and distances involved.

At that moment I had the idea for this piece of music; something that would represent the mystical nature of our existence but would also be informed by science.

I wanted to create the music inside my computer with no actual live instruments (of course I broke this rule, there is a tiny amount of live drumming and when some lovely ambience from Steve Lawson, accidently dropped in the track when I was trying to insert some drum samples, it had to stay) and create one huge track (it is really one track, I cut it down the middle as it became pretty unwieldy)

Some interesting facts about this piece; Part One tries to contain the whole history of the earth where as Part Two happens in real time and covers about the landing on the moon, with the dialogue between The Eagle and Earth presented as it happens.
Also the moon's song really does contain a message to Earth, and what you hear is created from the pitches of that message. And if you play it backwards you will hopefully hear that message.

This album contains a lot of new ideas from me, and is different from what I have been doing recently. This is a dense and difficult piece of music, and asks a lot of the listener.
But if you do get to the end, well done and I hope it was worth it.
