Children by Angelia
Children is a tribute to Chick Corea. It is inspired by Children's Song #1, with a different time signature, ostinato and theme. While the original track is 1:45 long, Children is also ten times longer, with many references to other masterpieces like Crystal Silence, Sometime Ago, La Fiesta, Spain, No Mystery, Hymn of the 7th Galaxy, among others.
Technically, Children is an etude of polyrhythms with increasing complexity and unusual harmonies. The main part is recorded on a Rhode virtual piano in one take.
In the preface of his album released in 1984, Chick Corea stated that he aimed « to convey simplicity as beauty, as represented in the Spirit of a child. » Based on this idea, Children expresses the joy of young children playing, a reminiscence of joyful memories of our own childhood, between reality and a shimmering dream.
