Gun from Swing by Angharad Drake

I began writing this song before I knew what I was writing it about, but I discovered its meaning while I was in Tasmania with Alex. We were reading a story in the local newspaper in this tiny town about the murder of a woman and her partner by her ex partner. This couple had separated but she refused to let the man see his baby son. The man was angry so one night he drove out at 4am in the morning, at 10km p/hr, to her house with a shot gun and killed both her and her new boyfriend. His young daughter was in the next room listening. After he had killed them he grabbed his son and drove off. He called the police to let them know what he'd done and arranged a place to hand his son over. When the police arrived he stepped out of the car leaving his in the front seat and shot himself in the head. Unfortunately this didn't kill him but instead left him with brain damage - during the court hearing he is totally unaware of whats happening.
