In Japanese culture, hibiki (響) refers to the concept of resonance, echo, or reverberation. It embodies the way a sound or feeling extends outward, creating a connection between people, emotions, and the environment. Beyond its literal meaning, hibiki also symbolizes the lingering impact of something that resonates or harmonizes—whether in music, relationships, or the natural world. It reflects a sensitivity to subtle interactions and a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of life.
With this album, I sought to capture that sense of connection through a return to my ambient and percussive roots. Seamless field recordings create a backdrop for improvisations performed on an electronic percussion instrument playing through outboard hardware. This hands-on approach made the process more tactile and visceral than my usual work with virtual instruments. I hope that immediacy and energy come across in the final piece as intended.
May this music bring you moments of stillness, introspection, and peace. Thank you for listening and for sharing in this journey.
