'Satellite Down' is the second solo instrumental release from 'Smoots' following 2012's 'Smoots Got Soul' (released under the alias 'Diabolik')
And his third release on Bad Taste records having put out the collaborative album 'Today I Will' with 'Darkstorm'.
Satalite down is a 27 track shuttle pod journey through outta space and inner tenements. At times it feels like an episode of Watch with Mother shot in a Lafayette corner bodega. One minute autonomous felt centipedes are leaking out the cathode ray tube of some old 70's Tv.. then before you know it you're catching a whiff of Philly cheese steak as some toothless fiend is trying to blag a doller for a red top. Next thing you know?.. you're hitting the red top.
But it's more pleasant than that sounds, or at least should sound...
It's sprawling and eclectic without ever becoming fragmented or directionless. The thing about Smoots beat loops is you can never easily identify individual elements. You feel like you're listening to some old 70's funk or R'n'B band. It all gels together incredibly well.
From old abandoned moon bases to subterranean cave forests Smoots takes us to the places any listener expects to visit when hearing a Bad Taste Records release in the vain of Trellion n Sniff, Third Person Lurkin' or Morriarchi, but with his own distinct, dusty brand of soul and funk.
