Hype / Whoops by Basscamp
Hype / Whoops is the newest release from Naarm-based live tech duo Basscamp, combining their signature groove box programming with advanced computer techniques for maximal impact.
Released in November 2023, Basscamp's Technical Itch was a collection of six techy burners that left their dedicated listeners quietly satisfied but, still, technically itching for more. With Hype / Whoops, Basscamp delivers two dance floor heaters that encapsulate both the past and the present for the duo.
The opener, Hype (Funk Mix), is an elicit tool brought to life by Luan with his distinct groove box gravitas. It soon became a favorite in their live shows for its ability to tap into playful ecstasy while maintaining a heady entrancement. Written for the dance floors of Naarm back in '22, Hype (Funk Mix) quickly became the track on everyone's lips. The track, even in its demo phase, made appearances on NTS, PBS, Skylab, and countless clubs across the world. Hype (Funk Mix) locks dancers in with its clinically swinging groove before delivering a memorable vocal cut. The extended wormhole of a breakdown late in the piece will have you chasing skipping pulses that swell like a tide, featuring a classic, snake-like Basscamp bouncy bass tone. Use with caution.
Whoops Track adds further context to the Basscamp journey as the duo explores more sides of their auditory collaboration. Previously a strictly out-of-the-box project, Basscamp now fully harnesses the power of their studio as an instrument to further enhance their message. Featuring steezy late-swung grooves and a sun-soaked chord stab at its core, Whoops Track engages the body and frees the mind. What begins as a minimal house anthem progresses into an entrancing celestial roller as twinkling chords are stretched, dubbed, and contorted over a momentous rhythm section. This one is for the trippers and the dreamers.
