Dog Days. Introducing “Canicular” the 5th movement from TiLT. The Canicular Days are the hottest part of the year- between late July and early September.
The creative process on this one was quite different. I took a theme from the previous movement “Lammas” and improvised around it on the piano and then used those recorded improvisations as building blocks to compose with. Then adding electro acoustic production techniques to give it that quivering shimmering heat. I recorded the strings of the piano with the sustain pedal on which gives it that sense of weightlessness.
The improvisation was a journey to take the listener from Lammas (mvt 4) to movement 6, “Turning” which will be out in a few weeks. In fact all the movements of TiLT merge into each other to be listened to in one sitting to give a sense of the wheel turning
Bertie Anderson Haggart is an internationally acclaimed, award winning musician and composer. She grew up in North Norfolk where her musical journey began. Known most for her work with Bowjangles, the comedy theatrical string quartet and The BeauBowBelles a swing folk band.
