I live on a string
My life is a pretty strand of pearls about to break
It's loosening
The knot that's been holding everything in place
I don't think I can tie it back again.

Doesn't matter how much they cost
Maybe it was time for them to break
Sometimes when you pay too much
You have to take a loss
So I'll tear them off and sweep them out the door.

What color
Should I paint this space
To conceal the evidence of my disgrace?
Rose quartz or serenity
I wish I had some inside me
Instead I'm drowning in a sea of cold sweat and anxiety.

You can try to paint over the truth
But the patina of despair has a way of shining through
I know that we paid too much
But there's nothing else to do except to
Strike a match and burn it to the ground.
