The title track from Bon-Psy’s upcoming EP ‘Balance’ continues the theme of empowerment through a unique display of forward-thinking Electronica.
Bon-Psy’s journey to this moment through previous EP’s ‘Order’ & ‘Chaos’ depict a delicate relationship of hardship and self-discovery. In doing so he has turned the heads of notable tastemakers across the space, including BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 and Bandcamp Weekly, alongside playlist support from Spotify. Collectively, the support he has garnered thus far proves the young musician is not to be passed up.
‘Balance’ begins with a lot of the traditional characteristics of an IDM leaning piece of Electronica. Skittery drum patterns and eerie ambient-esque pads accompany an angelic vocal line, which combined are almost meditative in nature. But any similarities to a traditional approach end here, as Bon-Psy morphs the composition through an array of rising instruments before cascading into an explosive chorus of synths and tribal drums. The once angelic vocal line now tells a different story, acting as a powerful war cry that invigorates the listener.
But ‘Balance’ isn’t singular in its aesthetic. After striking listeners with an anthemic chorus, Bon-Psy masterfully and carefully mellows the track down to a singular piano line that bridges the gap into a finale of Future Bass inspired synth work. The likes of which can only be described as an audio depiction of time travel.
Bon-Psy delves deeper into his thoughts behind the track:
“As this is the title track, I wanted it to perfectly encapsulate the overall feeling of the EP. That being, a feeling of closure, or a grand finale, so to speak. I had the idea of making something that sounded like you were travelling through a wormhole. As if, the protagonist from Order and Chaos has finally found Balance between the two, achieving enlightenment.”
