Boss Morris was founded in 2015 in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Drawing upon the foundations laid by pioneers such as Mary Neal and her Esperance girls, we’re proud to be continuing and evolving a long tradition of women in Morris dancing, with the aim of bringing Morris to new audiences and reshaping some of the predefined customs. Our dances are a celebration of past and present, both understanding the importance of the heritage of this unique dance whilst also unapologetically embracing modernity.

Rob, Sam and Miranda echo the Boss Morris approach in their playing – respecting tradition but feeling free to break conventions in pursuit of making music that is great to dance to, that enables the tunes to shine and sounds as if it belongs in the here and now.

These tunes are glorious in themselves but seem to have an extra dimension when they are played for dancing; they come alive in the dynamic interplay between dancers and musicians.

This album was recorded live, lawnmowers and all, and in the spirit of playing for dancing… we hope it makes you want to dance!

Founded in 2015, Boss Morris is an all-female progressive morris dancing side from Stroud in Gloucestershire.
