White Hat by Brian Ohme
Late on the night of September 19, 2009, Chandra and I ran into Bradly at the Wenatchee Sheri's restaurant on our way home from a date in Leavenworth. We had pie and coffee, I think. As we were saying goodbye in the parking lot, Arnulfo Garcia Maldonado was walking across North Wenatchee Avenue, and was struck by a Northbound pickup going about sixty mph. The truck kept going. A semi truck then skidded to a stop between us and Arnulfo, blocking our view. Chandra ran around it, and screamed as she was the first to reach him. It was shocking, as he lay there broken and unconscious, barely breathing. His white cowboy hat was laying in the middle of the street, somehow coming to rest about one hundred feet South of his body. I just kept wanting to get his hat for him; there was nothing we could do. We stayed and tried to comfort him until the ambulance came. He died two hours later.
