Quiet Flame by Caitlin Canty
Produced by Chris Eldridge (Punch Brothers), Quiet Flame features Sarah Jarosz (mandolin, banjo, vocals), Brittany Haas (fiddle), and Paul Kowert (bass) as the core backing band. Andrew Marlin sings backing vocals, Noam Pikelny and Eldridge guest on a few songs as well. Recorded live over four days at The Tractor Shed in Nashville with Sean Sullivan engineering and mixing. Eleven new original songs including cowrites with Jamey Johnson and Maya de Vitry.
Originally slated for a March 2020 recording session, the project was held up when a tornado touched down in Canty's yard in Nashville and a pandemic shutdown followed days later. Canty's first child was born a few months later. After the many delays, the excitement of finally gathering with friends in a room to sing and play these songs together was palpable. The record captures that feeling of ease and enthusiasm.
A first for Canty, Quiet Flame is entirely acoustic - no drums, no electric instruments. The songs are about resilience, perseverance, and finding satisfaction in the mess and the mundane.
