All suited up in denim and my finest lightweight coat
I make my way up to my favourite bench
Planted by the water with a view along the path
A cinema of daily life
That jogs and walks and rolls on by

There goes a couple dressed in tension
The happy kind of tension
That fades with a kiss

On sprints a man with apprehension
Running in his dress shoes
To a date he cannot miss

There goes a mother and her baby
Singing in the way she learned will break a smile

On looks a woman in her eighties
Remembering the days she’d parade about her child

Bicycles and roller skates
Zip and glide between the footsteps on the promenade
Solo strolls and flocks of friends
Each with new beginnings and ends

There goes a cities population
For commonplace vacations that suit their day to day
Who knows? I’d love an invitation
But until that occasion
The bench is where I’ll stay
