I'm living through weird times. We're living through weird times.
Let me present to you four more songs. Recorded in two sections between my new home of Sheffield and my old home of Wantage, Caffeinated Quartet has been written at an odd juncture in my life.
The abrupt relocation back to where I grew up splits these tracks in two. Both Ambrosia and Unsure were written in situ, with Year and Doldrums being post-fact. Fortunately, a change of scene brought with it a change in instruments. I've been able to use my old 12-string, the cajon, my mandolin and also my jaw-harp to create a more rounded and varied sound than before.
I have recently been listening to quite a bit of Neutral Milk Hotel and Waxahatchee and have felt myself drawn further towards folk stylings.
Leaving Sheffield has been hard, especially as it means leaving the inspiration for 2 1/2 of these songs, at least for a little while. It's pretty obvious that I wouldn't have been able to write most of these without someone to write about.
Much as before, I hope that these tracks serve as a snapshot for this chapter in my life, and may, perhaps, also strike a chord with this chapter in your life as well.
