When local musical theatre star Doron Chester was cast in a Yiddish production of Fiddler on the Roof (sadly jettisoned by COVID), we knew we had to bring this beloved song to life. Our arrangement sparkles with Doron’s effervescence, and other surprises, including the moment when Ben Adler mistakes himself for a balalaika player; and, shortly thereafter, when he and Paul mistake themselves for backing vocalists to squeeze out some sweet three-part harmonies. We had an indecent amount of fun stomping around A Sharp Recording Studio faux-drunkenly shouting ‘L’chaim!’ at 1am on a Friday.
CHUTNEY is a klezmer band with a twist. Drawing on their Eastern European & Middle Eastern Jewish heritage, they present a hot, spicy and energetic mix of originals and arrangements of traditional dance tunes.
With violin, clarinet, keyboard, bass, percussion and drums, the musicians’ chemistry is electric as they traverse genres from folk to pop, jazz to tango, classical to funk, east to west.
