Giant Lion from ION by CIFIKA

“Giant Lion” is the soundtrack to a sci-fi allegory of CIFIKA’s own creation.

“A memory of a machine floats alone in space, sending out signals to search for someone else. He finally meets another being, and asks his counterpart if they dream, too... I read a lot of science magazines and short stories. I always wonder about machines and their version of consciousness. If they will feel something akin to human emotion, will they also experience loneliness?”

As for the production, the sample of a screaming metal band that lies underneath CIFIKA’s vocal melodies was inspired by a personal anecdote.

“I met someone who listened to metal music as a catharsis, because they had been abused as a child. It made me realize that aggressive and violent music can be an outlet for feelings of hurt and anger. And I wanted to incorporate that kind of music as a release for myself as well.”

Emerging from the Korean underground, CIFIKA is redefining what we think contemporary Korean music sounds like.

The producer/vocalist’s bilingual, debut full-length album, HANA, reflects CIFIKA’s borderless upbringing (living in both South Korea and North America) and her vision of a world where language, art, music and gender are all fluid.
