Copy Copy by Crump Cake Orchestra

Over 3 years in the making, Copy Copy is Evan Bassani’s attempt to rework the music of Adelaide 3 piece sample-based, jazz hip-hop group voiceROM for the 20 piece Crump Cake Orchestra. Incorporating elements from Jazz, Rock, Latin, Funk, and Electronica, Copy Copy is a wonderfully exciting body of work, that has a strong sense of cohesiveness from start to finish.

In January 2015, the now 20-piece Crump Cake Orchestra and 3-piece electro-acoustic trio voiceROM, arranged and performed each other’s music for a one-off show as part of the COMA Summer Series. At the time, this was by far the hardest arranging/composing task I had undertaken and I was stumped at how to create meaningful large ensemble music, from a band whose works were mostly under 2 minutes each. So, I studied music from many different genres, employing many different arranging and composing techniques to make music that was original, but still paid homage to each of the voiceROM tracks they originated from. The limitations imposed forced me to be very creative with the source material and has personally changed my composition style for the better. I hope you enjoy Crump Cake Orchestra’s Copy Copy.
