Twilights by DAC Crowell
The two works here are evocations of the end and beginning of the day as 'tone paintings' of a sort. Using some previously-recorded tracks that were intended for the same purpose, I reworked and remixed those to create a result that I feel is much more evocative of the liminal light quality and both of nature winding down and re-emerging into activity once more. While each track is a bit over 30 minutes, the 'moment' that these works are composed to bring forth is actually rather fleeting, an instant's duration from the period after, and before, the sun's light moves past the horizon.
These two works are also something of 'bookends' to the tracks on the album "West: Nocturnal Music in Five Movements" to be released in a few weeks (at the time of this album's release) by Magnatune. The atmospheres evoked are very much related, and "Twilights" can be viewed as the prelude and postlude companion pieces to that album.
