Oooh the story of this song...

So first, let's talk about what it's actually about.

A dear friend, we'll call him: 'Shortbus.' That's - 'Bus,' for short, just in case you don't know him, or maybe you do, and somehow haven't heard about this...

One day, Bus was forced to take a stand against the single biggest threat to a happy life in the service industry...

ASSHOLES!

Here's our hero, just busy as a bee, hustling around, handcrafting any number of ridiculous cocktails, that people think look good on the internet, so they fire it outta their mouths the next time they encounter a bartender...

Anyway, the man's workin' out here! I believe, this actually took place during Sundance, which only makes matters worse, all around.

So here's Bus, trying to make a living, when this weapons grade clown-ass goofus reaches around the bar, and starts eating the fruit out of the cocktail tray. Bus warned his victim, ever so politely, and the guy proceeded to ignore his request.

Dude reaches back over the bar, takes another orange, and chews it slowly, staring down our hard working bartender the whole time. So like any hero, Shortbus railed the guy in the head with a cocktail shaker, AS HE WAS SHAKING A DRINK!

Our pal Bus ended up facing 'Assault' charges (which eventually got dropped). His 'Weapon,' was THE Assault Shaker.

Sure, the song's a fun play on words about being a 'Rabble Rouser,' but it's also very much based on a true story.

This song is about every Server, Bartender, Busboy, Host, and Manager, of a restaurant that's been treated with less respect than they deserve, and it's about taking a stand.

Moving on...

Lyrically, my favorite line is probably:

'A hero's ride is short but direct - and mine is going to intersect with you.'

The 'hero,' of course, in this instance, being the actual drink shaker itself. The 'ride,' being the distance covered between Bus's hand and dude's head.

Performance wise, am I hitting the 'right' notes on this?
...Open to interpretation. Who's to say what the right notes are anyway? ME! THAT'S WHO!

Gimme a break! Yes, this song's been in the hopper for a while, but I've been experimenting with how to sing it, right up until the second this got recorded, and still after. We're doing it live, sometimes it sounds...different.

I originally wrote this with, and sitting next to another bartender friend, who some of you may remember as 'Safety Pete.' I drew a smiley face on the upper right corner of the page, and told Pete it was there to 'remind you it's a riot song.' Which it very much is.

This song is about lighting fires in people (and 'in the streets') and watching them spread, ie: 'Motivate to Desecrate.'

Sonically...I played with the guitar tones for a while, and ultimately decided to leave them clean. I think the natural overdrive works with the concept. Could the whole thing sound better? Obviously. But I'm done tinkering with it. We're on a fucking disease based time-frame here!

Side note: This song predates and has nothing to do with the virus that the rest of the demo is based on. It was basically included because all of the gear was already in position, after re-tracking 'Lights in the Sky,' for a better mix, which is also an older song.
