Bit off all of my finger nails
And tasted the dirt beneath them
And somehow found a reason to read
Through all the thick of this garbage
Through all the fact of the fictional print
Beyond metaphoric lesson
Through the point of view of the protagonist

As he turned the other cheek

Tie me up with my common sense
I’ve been hanging for a while on my last thread

I’ve been trying to stay human
I’ve been shopping in fluorescent light
And singing in cement basements
To a crowd who is not listening
So they shove black mold in my mouth
