With a career spanning over 30 years, Osaka-based Taiyo has been a fixture in the Japanese music community, founding the Sound Channel label, and prolifically releasing innovative club music records. After a hiatus of nearly 10 years, the producer and multi-instrumentalist returns with Land EP, a six-tracker of dreamy, folk-infused creations marking his debut on Darker Than Wax.
Land EP takes its inspiration entirely from the natural world - a reflection of Taiyo’s surroundings after relocating out of the city to an island home in 2011. Fusing lush synth soundscapes with wet guitars and a host of traditional instruments, Land EP conjures the serenity - and at times intensity- of natural wilderness. From the psychedelic meditations of ‘Mountain’ and ‘Hydrangea Lode’, to the tribal percussive energy of ‘Takamachi’ and ‘MoonDance’, Land EP explores our relationship with the natural world, and the beauty found within.
Darker Than Wax is an assertion on the pervasiveness of the underground. Present yet deeply rooted in history, we connect through the musical depth of diverse rhythms and cultures; a nod to the solid foundations of Jazz, Soul, Blues and all their offshoots, while simultaneously embracing electronic sounds of the modern dancefloor.
