High Hat by Dave Muir

High Hat was recorded in my dining room in the spring of 2022 with Patrick Gushue (mandolin/fiddle and vocals harmonies), Liam Keith-Jacques (guitar/dobro and vocals harmonies), Scott Michaud (banjo and vocals harmonies) and Rémi Arsenault (upright bass). Recording by Danny Bourgeois of Pumpk’n Patch Studio. Mastered and engineered by Danny Bourgeois at Pumpk’n Patch Studio. Additional harmonies and production-project managemnent by Don Coleman. Necessary support and catering by my lovely wife Stephanie Muir and lovely daughters Olivia and Heather Muir. Stephanie also liaised with Don overseeing the management of the Sessions as well as having started the whole process.

I have much gratitude for all involved; the loving care put in by my family, the enthusiastic direction (and additional vocal harmonies) of Don Coleman and the daring of the musicians to record live off the floor with very few takes. I am also grateful to have captured a take of my dearly departed musical partner Chris Palmer on harmonica from a session years ago.

All songs are written by Dave Muir with the exception of Ragweed Ruth in which the lyrics are a poem by Ken Kesey while the music was composed by Dave Muir.

Dave Muir is a musical artist from Ottawa, currently based in Atlantic Canada. Dave has been crafting his unique style and sound since the early 80s performing in various blues, rock, roots, and acoustic groups. Inspired by the diverse stylings of a century of music making, he brings his humble and unassuming nature to song with the soul of a timeless storyteller, and the heart of a poet.
