David Baron's sound is influenced by Woodstock where he's based, analogue and modular synths which he collects and Classical Music which he's scored in great abundance. When not making music for UK label Here & Now Recordings, Baron works with The Lumineers, Lenny Kravitz, Bat For Lashes, Simone Felice, Meghan Trainor, Shawn Mendes, Phoebe Bridgers, Josin, Melanie De Biasio, Conor Oberst, Peter Murphy (from Bauhaus) and is lead composer and soundtrack producer for Gregory Colbert’s follow up to Ashes & Snow. WHISPERERS song
“Whisperers is about my daughter Tamara who passed shortly before her second birthday of a sudden illness. I wrote the song after passing her urn every day and feeling sad for her. I thought about all the life she missed, the love, school, everything. My son Oskar has been growing up - getting bigger. Her pictures remain the same as his go through all the various stages of childhood. Tamara is perpetually two-years old. She lost her voice. She aches for the love in Whisperers. Fiona has the perfect voice for the song. She is also approximately the same age that Tamara would have been. She is an old soul. She has both beauty and pain in her voice. For me, Fiona bridges the gap between our world and the one that Tamara is sadly in.”
David Baron, 2020
Whisperers is primarily a string quintet piece with some doubling. Zachary Alford (Bowie, B52s) plays drums while Byron Issacs (Lumineers, Levon Helm) plays bass. I played Steinway grand piano. I tried to write a piece that has an emotional pop melody set in a chamber music context.
