Best played loud on good speakers if you can stand it!
Sport, written for the eight piece David Chesworth Ensemble and playback, is not the kind of music one expects from this group.
Electronic and sampled sound elements create a soundscape that acts as a kind of manoeuvring game; musicians reacting and anticipating musical moves and gestures.
The music is peppered with the sounds of voices of people playing football, wrestling, basketball, weightlifting and athletics. These voices have a visceral quality that triggers the music.
The work is fully scored but the musicians are then allowed to deviate and invent new moves when they encounter opposing forces.
Sport – commissioned by Julian Burnside for the David Chesworth Ensemble. 2006
Here you’ll find my early vinyl records, both solo and with groups such as Essendon Airport and Whadya Want? (1979-1986); early cassette releases; experimental operas (1989-2004); environmental recordings; and some recent music. Some you'll love, some you'll hate.
