I sing a song to the vengeful sea
of my own tragedies
Oh what sorrows have befallen me
I blame them all on the sea

I’d sit ashore sing a song to the sea
I sang to nobody else
a gentle wave would caress my feet
the sea was under my spell

on the shore i saw a young girl
radiant as she smiled
i caught her glance, my heart beat fast
i knew that she must be mine

I sang her a song and I woo-ed her heart
Oh how her cheeks turned red
in my next verse And I asked her this:
were she already wed?

to start a life of our own

for passage to our new home

A streak of lightning the jealous sea
loomed like a mountain above
I swore it had a demon’s face
as it came to claim my love

The wave came crashing over the hull
And it dragged my wife to the sea
I signed a cross and dove over board
to follow my wife to the deep

As you swim to the light you can’t look back
to see if your young wife is there
do not so much catch just a glimpse of her

The sad sea bellowed and dragged my wife down
my dear you have made a mistake
You could not keep your gaze from her
so your poor wife I will take

beneath the surface I caught her eye
as the sea dragged her down
she mouthed the word “farewell” to me
as she most surely drowned
