Real Problems from Dream Life by Doug Hoyer

I met my friend for coffee
earlier this week
we started talking shop
and then he spilt the beans

He said he’s under pressure
He can hardly pay his rent
Flunking out of school
& his student loan is spent

Ever since his partner left him
his self confidence is shot,
second guessing every moment
riding a bad train of thought

I know there isn’t much that I can do
Except tell my friend: “Hey, I’m here for you”

I pay the bill, we step outside
as we embrace, I empathize:

I’ve got some friends withs some real problems
Oh, how I wish that I could solve them
I’ve got some friends with some real problems
and I’ll listen! I’ll listen to them

I answered my phone
and there was sobbing on the line
I knew this call was coming
I always saw it in her eyes

I tried to find a ray of light
to brighten up her day
but instead I let her talk
until she found her way

Ive got some friends withs some real problems
Oh how I wish that I could solve them
