Eleanora Fagan, better known as Billie Holiday (later nicknamed "Lady Day") was an African American jazz singer with a career spanning nearly thirty years. Her renowned vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills. She was a mainstream success throughout the 1930s and 1940s and won four Grammy Awards, all of them posthumously, for Best Historical Album.

As with sinatra sleeps (dwe 04) and ellington sleeps (dwe 07), this album takes snippets of her recordings and treats them with an alternate style of improvisation via loops and effects. A dreamy, ambient jazz collection that pays tribute to her legacy.
