London has so many neighbourhoods, all with different characters. Walk through Leicester Square at 7 on a winter's evening. The sun's long gone. It's cold as the mist curls round the lights shining brightly through trees on the pedestrian thoroughfare. If there is no film premiere that night to block the way with eager celebrity chasers, then tourists mingle with workers on their way home, going "down, down, down" on escalators into the underground train system. A mixture of the excited mingling with the weary.
It seemed when I wrote this song that a whole generation, including my daughter, was getting married. A time of hope and happiness against the background of a city with ten million souls, all of them islands, all with their own stories. All blown around in the random direction of fate's fickle breeze.
