Vrbas by Dunjaluk

EP je kolaž snimki nastalih u razdoblju od 2022. do kraja 2024., i sadržajno se nadovezuje na naš prvi album. Pjesme Telal viče i Čudna jada snimili smo u studiju Danijela Drakulića i prirodan su nastavak onoga što smo radili na albumu. Dali smo se u njegove ruke, u suradnji s njim okušali se u novom načinu snimanja i pronašli novi pristup istoj formuli. Rezultat je intimniji i slobodniji dijalog s prostorom. Od izlaska albuma puno smo putovali i svirali, na koncertima smo često pozivali goste, a imali smo i rezidencijalne suradnje koje su rezultirale koncertima. Ideja nam je bila isprobati kako naša muzika funkcionira kad napusti intimno okruženje i dobije interaktivni bendovski zvuk. Neke od tih suradnji imali smo priliku snimiti, između ostalih i onu s bečkim triom wh/m (na festivalu Glatt&Verkehrt u Kremsu u Austriji). Džidža i Vrbas reizvedbe su pjesama s našeg prvog albuma. Treći oblik suradnje je retroaktivni. Lenhart Tapes remiksira našu pjesmu Kamen gori čime na neki način surađuje s nama u prošlosti. Rezultat istovremeno dotiče našu prošlost i našu budućnost. EP je dokument dosadašnjeg muzičkog putovanja Dunjaluka, koji se, otvoren za suradnju, ni na jednom mjestu ne zadržava predugo, i svoj minimalizam otvara u različitim smjerovima.

Naravno, muzičke suradnje su i ljudski susreti kojima gradimo osjećaj zajednice. Važno nam je da to što radimo bude u interakciji s našim okruženjem. Ovom prilikom htjeli bismo se zahvaliti svima koji su nam se pridružili na putu: Nika Bauman, Leo Beslać, Brane Norac, Evi Keglmeier, Antonis Antoniou, Demetris Yiasemides, Andys Skordis (kao Monsieur Doumani), Marko Kölbl.

This EP is a collage of recordings made between 2022 and 2024, echoing the story of our debut album. The songs Telal viče and Čudna jada were recorded at Danijel Drakulić’s studio and are a natural continuation of what we did on the album. We placed ourselves in his hands, explored a new way of recording in collaboration with him, and found a fresh approach to the same formula. The result is a more intimate and free dialogue with space.

Since the release of the album, we’ve travelled and performed extensively. We often invited guest musicians to play with us at concerts, and we also had collaborative residencies that culminated in live performances. Our idea was to test how our music functions when it leaves its intimate setting and gains an interactive, band-like sound. Some of those collaborations were recorded, including one with the Viennese trio wh/m (at the Glatt&Verkehrt Festival in Krems, Austria). Džidža and Vrbas are reinterpretations of songs from our first album.
Lastly, there is a retroactive collaboration: Lenhart Tapes remixed our song Kamen gori, thereby, in a way, collaborating with us in the past. The result touches both our past and our future.

The EP is a document of the musical journey of Dunjaluk, who are open to collaboration, never stay in one place for too long, and open their minimalism in various directions.

Of course, musical collaborations are also human encounters through which we build a sense of community. It’s important to us that what we do remains in dialogue with our environment. Dunjaluk is a band from Zagreb, Croatia, formed in late 2019, and consisting of singer Dunja Bahtijarević and electric guitarist Luka Čapeta. They play songs from the Bosnian tradition of sevdah. Dunja is looking for herself in sevdah, and Luka is looking for sevdah in himself. The process is an experiment, and the result is yet unnamed.
