overDUBB2 by Durham University Big Band

‘overDUBB2’ is a hotly awaited follow-up to Durham University Big Band’s 2015 debut album ‘overDUBB’. As well as showcasing the range of contemporary charts the band has been working on over the 2016/17 academic year, the flagship album serves as an opportunity to introduce many of the band members to the recording process. Selections vary from modern arrangements of jazz standards (‘Caravan’ arr. Callum Au, ‘Tonight’ arr. Matthew Jacobs) to arrangements of songs closer to the popular domain (‘Eleanor Rigby’ arr. Gerard Presencer, ‘Let it Ride’ arr. Matthew Jacobs) to bold new compositions that seek to expand the big band idiom (‘Pete Wheeler’ comp. Jacob Mann, ‘Oglütz’ comp. Outi Tarkienen). DUBB is a band defined by its appetite for new and challenging material, a characteristic conveyed more strongly by this latest record than ever before.
