Steampunk is a style of "retro-futurism" - how the future might have been imagined by people in the past. It's inspired by authors like Jules Verne or HG Wells. The overall aesthetic is a pseudo-Victorian look augmented by phantasmagorical machinery, often powered by steam and/or clockwork.
