Night bled out in Marni’s bed
Her hiding place was chemical
Bells rang out inside her head
She said, “the shape of love is spherical”
She wrote her poems in shades of red
The worlds she made were magical
I read her words again and again
They said, “all control is comical”
Marni died at winter’s end
She said, “all the girls are horrible”
The birds had flown, the leaves were dead
She left the weight of what’s intangible
And now she’s gone
But life goes on
Night’s falling
And I’m thinking of Marni

She studied classical voice as a teenager and placed 8th in the 2003 Florida Super Singer contest for her performance of “Se Tu M’ami” in front of a long-gone Things Remembered.
