Curriculum by Emil Johansen

"Curriculum" is the final iterations of a selection of compositional challenges in the realm of ambient and generative music.

The album consists of 4 studies of varying complexity and specificness.

- The first study is based on a single sine note at 438 hz, which evolves one simple note through techniques such as granular synthesis, phasing techniques, pseudo-delay and FM-synthesis.

- Inspired by the works and ideas of György Ligeti, Rued Langgaard and Tangerine Dream, the second study is exploring the Tonal Cluster technique, realized with electronic instruments. The study is a structured work, following a graphic notated score.

- By listening to the futurists with the most accurate predictions, can humankind somehow trust their dystopian statements? And should humankind act accordingly? These questions are asked in the third study, which is creating a crystal-ball-like sound-environment, where all predictions regarding the near future for humanity, have equal value.

- The fourth study is a composition written on modular synthesizer in 3 sections. The initial melody gets gradually more unrecognizable through a soundly morphing process, and seeks to deconstruct itself entirely,
