CouCou by Salmoni

Recent observations have revealed the hitherto unknown nature of salmon, a discovery shrouded in mystery. It is well known that most salmon of this species are born at the source of a river, then wander into the depths of the ocean before returning to their birthplace to reproduce and finally succumb, like an eternal cycle suspended in time. However, little is known about the particular behaviour of the ‘Turin Salmon’.

Instead of dying of exhaustion and hunger, these creatures reach a decisive turning point at the second bend in the Bobino river, where they stop to rest and refresh themselves. The accumulation of two hundred Turin Salmon stirs up the algae and creatures hiding in the mud. Voracious, the second bend is completely dry.

But then an extraordinary phenomenon occurs, worthy of being recorded in travellers' chronicles: the Turin Salmon suddenly cease to be interested in their stubborn direction and look up at the sky with curiosity. In an instant, a vertiginous metamorphosis takes place: scales are transformed into feathers as fluffy as clouds, jaws harden into sharp beaks, elegant feathers blossom from pictorial gills, while the pectoral fins enlarge and become air-carrying wings.

Three leaps towards the fire, two hesitant leaps, a first clumsy flight, as if they were learning to master the laws of a new element. A fine veil of hair and small spines like claws grow in the growing moss, signs of a transformation still in progress.

And so, in a cloud of iridescent steam, the Turin Salmon soar high, forming a glittering column of unimaginable creatures that quickly disperses into the firmament. Two glances, a fleeting vision of a face, four eyes. Behind them, they have left the imprint of wet dew and an unwanted destiny. All that's left is to wait with bated breath for their second release.
