Duck Hollow by Ethan Beck & The Charlie Browns

A welcome pop-oriented addition to Pittsburgh's exciting new wave of indie rock, Ethan Beck & The Charlie Browns began as a lark. After returning to Pittsburgh from college, Beck called up high school friends Esperanza Siegert-Wilkinson and Atticus Crowley to string together a live vehicle for some new songs. Formed in 2022, The Charlie Browns circled around Pittsburgh, taking the stage at legendary local venues like the Mr. Roboto Project and Mr. Smalls, before branching out to New York and Boston. The group is known best for live show where bright, hook-heavy power pop songs are played with exhausting momentum.

Produced and engineered by Jacob Reed (Frog Legs, Tilt Contrls), Duck Hollow relays Pittsburgh stories about cross-river relationships ("Wabash Tunnel"), misguided friends ("Monk Eric"), and Billy Joel's show at PNC Park in 2022 ("Brenda and Eddie"). The record is named for Pittsburgh's smallest neighborhood, which was founded 140 years ago as housing for employees of U.S. Steel. On Duck Hollow, Ethan Beck & The Charlie Browns hope that the emotional turmoil of growing up in Pittsburgh is rendered exhilarating by their widescreen guitar pop.
