When I was young, I was completely fascinated by the beauty of the traditional music of my native Japan and the folk music of many countries around the world.
Eventually, as I played music on my own, I realized that the exotic sounds of ethnic music that I was aiming for could never be reproduced on ordinary instruments.
The reason for this was in the tuning. I then realized that there were many different tunings in the world that could not be played on the piano or guitar using the equal temperament.
I then began to think about the design of tunings through the history of music, the mathematics of intervals, the theory of contemporary music, and the practice of ethnic music, and eventually came to a conclusion: This is the EUHEDRAL tuning.
This album contains works that use various versions of the tunings that were created through trial and error in reaching that tuning.
You can listen to future albums and on youtube for works using the EUHEDRAL temperament.
