Fly's Eyes returns with the brand new single "ESCAPEYOURMALL". Not tied to any specific project, the song is an extensive 23-minute musical journey that is unlike anything Fly’s Eyes, or anyone else for that matter, have released. It is an uncommercial track that embraces its simplicity and minimalism to create a sound that's familiar, yet completely new and unheard of. Reminiscent of... a dream, or something like that. A dream where you're lost somewhere and have only a hypnotic groove to use as a reference point. With "ESCAPEYOURMALL", Fly's Eyes dares to break free from its chains, still embracing the sampling that is its signature, but in a different way… by sampling the beauty of sounds in their purest form rather than specific musical compositions.
"ESCAPEYOURMALL" is a tribute, and a mourning of sorts, of the American phenomenon of the mall. Once all the rage, in the year of 2024 they've become a hollow shell, with only a few “great” ones surviving by orienting themselves towards the highest common denominator. But was the mall ever something great in and of itself? That's the question that is attempted to be answered here.
This single itself features no b-sides, as the track itself is 23 fucking minutes long. It also has the honorific distinction of being the first Fly's Eyes release to have a physical media release: CD singles. That’s right, you can buy a CD single, a dead format for singles, that showcases a song about a dead format of shopping! Featuring unique artwork that showcases the song's scrapped lyrics, the single is more than worth its incredibly low asking price. The disc is pretty cool looking too!
