Oscillator Suite by Neil O'Connor

Neil O'Connor is best known for his long-running electronic project Somadrone, and more recently the collaborative vehicle Ordnance Survey which has featured John McEntire (Tortoise), Donal Lunny and Roger Doyle. Oscillator Suite is the result of a week-long residency in Willem Twee Studios, Den Bosch, Holland in 2021 utilizing their Serge and ARP 2500 modular systems, as well as an array of 1950s-60s test equipment. Recordings were made directly to a Studer A-80 1/4 tape machine and little editing has been made to the original real time recordings. Proceeding with a deliberation and timbral specificity that recalls the work of Eduard Artemyev and Eliane Radigue, the pieces revel in the capabilities and idiosyncrasies of these instruments in a way that feels timeless and expressive rather than nostalgic.
