In MEZINA, LIŠAJ returns to Genot Centre with a massive follow-up to his 2015 SZARA EP. Taking his realization of dynamic formations and suspended blocks of stasis to an even further extreme, Lišaj evokes something of a mountainous scale here. The ever-present thick sound medium is somewhere inbetween a hum, a breeze, an insect choir or a rocky shelter behind a waterfall - still we are in an unearthly place, where valves with some suffocating but soothing gas seem to slowly turn open and diffuse into the space, sometimes reducing the entire environment to a frail needle zone. In this fog, a pulse materializes, the bass starts to bump louder and louder until incorporeal skrewed rhymes drift in and out of perception. Waferthin synth lines and claps with endless reverb tails are barely held together in the outline of a sluggish beat. And just when this groove approaches a definite form, we hear muffled Silesian bars being spit by some forest preacher, a glistening tongue that smoothly slices through the impenetrable air.
