Ave, Reverie by Go With Strangers
AVE. REVERIE, is the opus and debut album of alternative-rock band Go With Strangers. An earnest and meticulous work of music and design, spanning over the course of 3 years.
Inspired by Eugene’s long time fascination with the feeling of “Sonder” (a word coined by the author of the online Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows), which is the realisation that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own – populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and craziness; An epic story that continues invisibly around you, with elaborate passageways to countless other life and stories that you'll never be able to see.. That you'll never know exists.
“In my adolescent years, I used to sometimes lie down in the middle of a nearby field or park, looking up at the night skies, wondering what is going on in the world out there”, recalls Eugene.
“What is happening in the lives of people I know, and people I have not known, and those that I will never know.. No mobile phone, no internet, social media had yet to even exist.. And believing that no one around me relates to this strange emotion - It was just this feeling of a cosmic and empty disconnection.”
Making this album was a short trip back in time, a light touch and brief acknowledgement of past melancholy, the sporadic bouts of confusion and angst in the years after.
And then, now.. Making peace with it all.
Ave, Reverie flows from alternative rock to atmospheric metal, from ambient guitars to hints of post rock and dream pop.
“Perhaps, Ave, Reverie.. Is a warm greeting, and also a bittersweet farewell, to dreams and daydreams.”, Eugene concludes.
