The song is a hybrid of a few different popular styles, including RnB, jazz and pop, akin to influences such as Yebba and Maro. The live instrumentation gives a warm, emotional feeling and the dynamic vocals portray the emotion intended perfectly. The instrumental layers sit together in the mix but are easily differentiated, as each part has its own set of responsibilities in the mix.
With u is a heartfelt ballad in which the protagonist is comparing their current life to a previous time. More specifically, missing the days before a relationship when one could be independent and free to feel however they want.
