The Shelterwood from Pallid Shores by half/moon

The river flows through the forest
Below the old road
Into the culvert
All the crows watch from their branches
The deer in velvet
Shedding all their fur

The forest trails are thick with mud
The water rises up
Around your boots
All the paths that you would normally be on
Are impassable now
While you find another route

Rain starts to fall in the forest
On the river
Into the culvert
The water gathers in the hollows
Full of mosses
By the rusted chain link fence

The heat is broken by the thunder
And all the creatures pick out their shelters
Up on the road there are headlights passing by
It's a shame to turn around
But there's nowhere else to go

Everything that you see here was changed after the flood
New streams that cut through soil
The river banks have moved
This is the same old forest
These are the same old trees
You know your way around here
But something's different now
