Decay by Various Decaying Wallers

'Decay' is the second in the new series of 'open call' themed compilations from the netlabel in 2023.

'Decay' is quite an open-ended theme and yet one that is undeniably appropriate for wall noise. This compilation is a look into 'atrophy' in a broader sense, but also specifically into 'decaying sound' - in the many forms that this could take - and in many ways is a nod to the pre-existing tradition of this thematic impetus in HNW.

With a fairly open interpretation - most wall noise could be linked with decay in some way or be said to be 'decaying' - and of course, dying electronics (fading battery power, patchy cables, idiosyncratic DIY builds, etc.) and uses of tape degradation are ways for the medium itself to inform this thematic approach too. Beyond pointing to these possibilities, I have left the interpretation up to the artists.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed - there was under a month of the call being open this time around for a change of pace, and a stricter criteria for participation (though, not a single contribution ended up failing to meet this criteria, which is nice).

I am greatly looking forward to the next!
