STELLARCIDE from OPPOSITE REACTION by STELRCIDE

The starling rises from their reclined position, peering down at the dove still writhing itself awake. "Every time you catch the light, your feathers blind me."

The dove sits up with a smile, the white on their feathers in the sunlight seemingly glistening more at the compliment. "You're allowed to look away, you know."

The starling shakes their head. "I never want to."

The dove muses, "Shame for you that i catch more sunlight up here, then." They lean back, nestling back in to the starling, "We spent all this time getting up here just for you to blind yourself."

"We did it, though." The Starling muses.

"I miss seeing the star patterns on you glisten in the dark, though."

"You still get to see them every night." The starling smiles, tangling their self with the dove.

There's a silence. "You know," The dove says, "It's really peaceful up here at the top."

The starling nods. The dove continues, "It's almost boring."

The two laugh. The starling continues, staring off into space, "Sometimes i think back to all the climbing we had to do, the adventure of it all," They lock eyes with the dove again, "I wonder if that was more fulfilling than the reward of getting to the top. It's all politics and drama up here."

The dove laughs. "We can stay out of that. We have a story, one we can share. And we will have that forever." They pick themselves up to sit up, eyes locking with the starling again. "Even if i don't see the stars in you, seeing your eyes light up is enough excitement for me."

The two hold each other, the silence giving way the bustling noise of Elionos island outside, and the buzzing of those beetles that follow the dove.
