In 1982, Poltergeist entered the pop culture landscape to raise the haunted house genre to new heights. The film has earned its status as a classic with a well paced and tight script, interesting and well drawn characters, excellent filming, ambitious special effects and most importantly scares that are effective for young and old audiences alike.

In this special episode of the podcast we take a look back at the Spielberg / Hooper original (and yes, we do discuss the director credit controversy), and its subsequent sequels which serve to demonstrate the stand-alone success of the 1982 film. With a balance of nostalgia and objective views we take a look at why a simple story of suburban nightmare has stood the test of time. The infusion of Native-American mysticism and evil skyscraper mirrors made for some fun banter as well. In schlock corner we get the unique reactions of a first time viewer of Poltergeist, age 9. Of course, what discussion of the Poltergeist series would be complete without mentioning "the curse". At least we offer up a counter-argument to the notion of a confirmation biased curse with the strange tale of Richard Lawson.
